Wevars and Wevars Added-Value: what they are, and why they are not the same thing

WEVONE uses two internal units. One is backed by euro at parity. The other is a usage value granted by the platform that matures into a backed unit after five years.

Most marketplaces have exactly one number on the account page: a balance. WEVONE has two, and the difference between them is the whole point.

The Wevar

A Wevar is an internal unit of account backed by euro at parity: one Wevar corresponds to one euro, covered by a real counterpart. It can be used to pay for purchases on the platform and, subject to the conditions, ceilings, delays, fees and identity verification in force, it can be withdrawn to a bank account.

Verified fact: this is what the terms describe today, in Part I, article 10 of the WEVONE terms of use and sale.

The Wevar Added-Value

A Wevar Added-Value is different in nature. It is a usage value granted by the platform: welcome bonuses, discounts, contribution rewards, promotional or commercial mechanisms. It lets you settle all or part of a purchase inside WEVONE, within the ceilings described below, but it is not withdrawable in cash while it is immature.

The honest way to describe it: a Wevar is already covered. A Wevar Added-Value is not covered yet.

Maturity after five years

A Wevar Added-Value matures five years after it is granted. At that point it converts automatically into a Wevar — that is, a unit covered by its euro or dollar equivalent, depending on the account's reference currency. Before maturity, it circulates only inside the platform.

Each batch carries its own maturity date, visible in the member's Wevars area.

Why two units at all

The reason is economic rather than cosmetic. A platform that only distributes fully backed value has to fund every incentive in cash on day one, so it distributes very little. A platform that distributes usage value can be generous immediately, and let time turn that generosity into backed value.

Objective: make rewards meaningful on the first day, without pretending they are already euros.

What they are not

Neither unit is legal tender. Neither bears interest. Neither is a savings product, an investment or a financial instrument, and neither grants any right over the capital of the publishing company. Anything presented as a return on Wevars would be a misrepresentation.
